Gasometer in Berlin-Schöneberg: Europe's largest billboard

Since August 2008, the Europe's largest billboard shines on the Gasometer at the industrial monument in Berlin-Schöneberg, by the highway in the direction of Steglitz.

On 660 square meters, the company Satis Fy + Germany (S + F), headquartered in the Hessian Karben built the 35 meters wide power-LED structure at a high of 20 feet on behalf of the Ströer Megaposter company.

The specialist in event production attached to the "Night Screen" on the upper third of the Gasometer in a special frame made of aluminum truss-square designed and produced specifically for this purpose by the company, Albert Scaffolding and Device Technology GmbH in 06618 Görschen.

550 LED chains consisting of 27 500 LED pixels were connected to the digital outdoor advertising.
Since early July, six ‘S + F’ specialists and up to twelve workers at heights were employed on the site with the installation of the electronic billboard.

Since Friday August the 1st, the "LED Night Screen" is fixed at a dizzy height

In a technically sophisticated procedure, the wall was lifted up on the Gasometer. It took more than six hours before the "Night Screen" reached its destination at 78 meters height.

The digital installation required six months of preparation, with elaborate licensing and approval procedures, detailed risk analysis, technical planning and fine-structural analysis.

The consultation throughout the planning and installation with our structural engineers was  strongly required. The wind loads, for example, had to be calculated daily.

“Some days we could not work due to poor wind conditions” Tobias Holler the ‘S + F’ project-manager explains about the difficulty of the project.

Height specialists, network engineers and rigging specialists guaranteed for the high standards of safety on site.

It was worked in shifts. “As the work at heights was going on, the work down at the base ceased. That was one of the security measures," adds Frank Schulte. Schulte is the technical manager of the Production Company and co-responsible of the implementation of the project locally.

The billboard makes technical implementations from animations to, high-quality video diffusion makes possible and should enlighten from now up to five years the sky over Berlin-Schöneberg and contribute to the gradually restoration of the Gasometer, said Gerd Henrich, Managing Director of Ströer Megaposter.

Satis + Fy AG Germany has established itself with its concept of "one-stop solution 'as Europe's leading production company for audiovisual event and media technology.
